I am not quit understand this readings, I feel like it talks about the public space and collective consciousness and political things. I have to admit that when a space is regarded as the public space, it always involves in physical, mental and political pollutions. And I just consider them as the sacrifice of the collective interests. However, I should say that citizens are the real main characters in a certain public spaces. When we design a public space, we should consider them first. But, I just realize, at present, when the designers try to design the public space, they just regard them as a element not a participation. For example, at my hometown, the government invited a design team to design a Riverside Road, they wanted the citizens have more space to interact with nature, so the just built a very wild park along with the river, but leave a narrow road for vehicles. However, it turned out that the citizens need more a wilder road to commute to work than a park to relax or have fun. I should say that the park was really great, but it just ignored the citizens basic need and inner desire.
And about the spaces and places, I don't know if I misunderstand it or not, I feel like places are just a spot, a still point, but the spaces are more than a spot. They have history, time, stories and even people’s experience and feelings.
