After reading this article, I admire the vision of this author. He used his knowledge of different aspects to design some products beyond his time. His rich knowledge and creativity impressed me a lot. When I read this article, I found that some of his products have been created as he imagined. Our modern age finally catch up with his mind.
I will talk about this article at two different aspects.
As a student who majors in DT, I am interested the process that bush designed his product. Firstly he had great amount of knowledge about theories in different fields and he combined all of these knowledge with his perception of this world. Secondly, he concerned more about the future, and he found the problems or issues that will happen in the future. And then we can see his design are based on present knowledge and reasonable outlook for the future. So as a designer, I think we should learn from him. We should not only try to know well about different theories of different fields but also have foresight for the future. At the same time, we should also tell the differences between fantasy and design. It just remind me of the future lab program of SONY. This program, just dis the same as bush did. The designers designed some products that beyond our perception. Like their N project that is a concept prototype featuring a voice interaction system. Users’ ears open, hands free, and their eyes are no longer distracted by mobile displays. They break the people’s normal awareness of headphones but they still obey the rules of sound transmission. So though at present, this product is just a concept prototype, it can be put in use in the future. So a good designer must be a person who masters rules and theories of the world well and be serious on his process of designing.
As human who are in the information age, we focus more on the information collection and transmission. And we just try to find a easier way to convey our thoughts and display to others. Like the machine ‘Memex’ designed by Bush which also try to build a trail to record human’ thoughts. I believe that when applied physics develop in the future, we can convey our thoughts without any medium. Just like the fiction novel “The Three Body “written by Cixin Liu, the mind of three-body people is readable. So people can see others thoughts directly without any medium.
